Aimophila botteri
July 10 7mi NW Port Isabel, Cameron Co, Texas
Dick collected a or + found nest SE of airport ~ 1 mile.
nest + egg measurements on previous page. Also collected
2 Cassin's Sparrows + saws group of young. Cassin's seemed
to be on N side of road where a bit more cactus + more yucca
appearing on south side.
nest of Botteri- raised slightly off ground on W side
of ridge - succulent provided shade to E+S, so nest
"opened" to NW. Suspended in small bush ~ 12" high.
(see specimen). Ridge was mound of dirt about 6-7' above
ground level - thrown up as debris from water channel.
Not sure of habitat separation between two species of
Aimophila here, but seems to be good breeding season difference.
