Amphila aestivalis
June 18 (ni.s. Boykin Springs, Jasper Co., Texas)
While playback still going flew to SW, + at 5-7 feet up
on growing tip of pine branch. Had tail cocked at 45+
head elevated, then flew off to SW.
0831 - 8° singing off to SW. Found on the flew
into oak where sang several times (a 10 feet up). Flew to
SE into pine + sang here for 5-10 minutes. Recorded
this series and then bird flew off to E. Then encountered
a 2nd bird + heard series of chatter notes. One bird then
flew off to SW while 8° continued on to N. Followed
8° + tried to get more recordings. Hard to need +
watch 8° at same time so either the song has a centilo-
guirski effect or there are 2 birds singing. Som fairly certain that it is only one bird. Especially decieving is
the marked decrease in volume of several types of songs.
This should be noticeable on some of the recordings.
8° then flew on to W + began another spaced series
of songs. Then was quiet,
flew to E + lit on dead limb 7 feet up aout about
2/3 of ZD" from trunk.
{0940-90° singing to E. only 5 songs consisting of 1 intro.
note + trill. then quiet until 0941.5 - when gave 2
songs in rapid succession (ord then several soft songs.
0843- singing regularly. another song is two whistle
notes followed by a trill.
