22 LL Wolt 1964 Himelula botteru July 9 Laguna Atascosa Refuge, Cameron Co., Texas 0815- no adult flushed from nest when I went out to check. gave came up from grass 15+ yds E of #1. Young- feathers well developed on all tracts dorsum many covered. Showed covering response when I put hand near nest. gave cheeping cry when hand held. Both responses in contrast to yesterday when showed no reactions of either sort when removed from nest. Adult to #3 chipping + when young started calling flew to SW of #1 so only 10-15 feet from nest. Dropped into herbaceous vegetation (not Spartina) chipping loudly. Flight in was fluttery. Worked in thin grass + flew up to E. Back to #1 chipping loudly when I went back to road (in car). Left area at 1820. July 10 Laguna Atascosa Refuge, Cameron Co., Texas 0545- bird flushed from Spartina grass 20 yds S. of road in terr. #4. flew to west parallel to road for 30+ yds + perched in th' hackberry or bar limb where sat giving series of rapid chips. Then flew N across road + lit in blue hackberry 85+ yds N. of road. Then to SE for 60-70 yds to dead shrub 3' high. Lit near- just telow- grass level + disappeared when I wrote notes at 0549. 0553- heard bird chipping + singing to W.- prob. #1 also chipping from E. of road in terr. #4. 0610- 0615- #3 presumably- singing continuous song from various perches 100+ yds. S. of road.
