18 LC WOLF 1964 Aimophila botterii July 9 Laguna Atascosa Refuge, Cameron Co., Texas Brown headed Cowbird egg + 2 recently hatched young which have fairly good covering of whitish down. Both young dead & skin of abdomen rotted away. Ants on both. I did not flush until I kicked S side of clump in which nest located then flew silently just above grasses to NE (almost E) for 50-75 yds so did not flush from his last position. 0820 - ♀ into perch 30+ yds to NW of nest - chipping rapidly then to 10 yds NW of nest still chipping. I flew silently from E to W (50-60 yds W of nest + 30-50 yds N) & lit in dead stub. 0825 - chipping from #2 & #7 (across road). 0827 - ad(♂) into perch 30±yds NW of nest. sat chipping just at grass level. ♀#7 began chipping + singing across road to S. ♂#2 then 75-100 yds SW when began continuous song. ♂#7 soon quiet & #2 then sat from his 6' high, dead stub perch chipping sharply. 0830 - ♂ went to 50-75 yds W of nest + chipping. I flew up from vicinity of nest & over to 75+ yds W. joined by ♀ both chipping. 0833 - ♀ to 40 yds west of nest. ♂ giving occasional 2 notes along with chipping by both sexes. Both sitting on dead 3± perches in Spartina - probably Cattle shrubs. 0837 - both sexes now 20 yds W of nest. ♀ up on dead stalk 4-5feet high - chipping with occasional 2 notes from continuous song. ♂ in live 3' hackberry + chipping. I then to perch 30 yds NW of nest, ♂ flew to NE 30-40 yds beyond ♀ goes into hovering flight as if
