LLWOLF 1964 Aimophila betherii July 9 Laguna Atascosa Refuge, Cameron Co., Texas most of foraging area covered seemed to be around Spartina but in areas where other grasses + composites provided space between clumps of bunch grass which facilitate movement + gives some bare areas 0700 - both birds flew to us. 1st dropped into grass + 2nd flew up to near top of Celtris. As I approached 1st to Celtris + 2nd flew off to S. 10' yds. to another Celtris. 0702 - both fly to NW. - one ca 10' behind other, flying 24 feet above tops of Spartina. Flight seemed to be direct with no 0708 - flushed P#4 from grass, flew up to dead thub 3' up, scratched one wing. then perched + chirped softly. M#6 + #4 began courtin - singing each in top 10', dead tree. M#6 mostly trill songs while #4 continuous song. M#6 stops + another M (M?) begins. then M#(1?) stops + M#6 sings for 2-3 songs. 0734 - M#2 flew from E-edge of fern, to clump of bushes 3+ feet high + sang. then across to other side of road (S) when sang + foraged in roadside weeds then further to S. (70-80 yds) where set in top of mesquite + periedy scratched (over wing), + began singing continuous song. Another bird began singing to SE + M#2 flew back to E edge of fern when lit on small (2') mesquite. Sang for 10+ sec then silent. 0739 - two M singing simultaneously - sounds like M #7 + M #3 both S of road + SE where M#2 sang. one to SE + one to SW probably M #? is identical with M #5
