LHWof 1964 5 Aimophila botterii July 8 Laguna Atascosa Refuge, Cameron Co., Texas general singing by several ?? begins (0625). 0633. food gone, probably not to young and ?? back into Lycurium. other bird (??) 20-30 yds. to N in dead 3' shrub carrying food. ?? down to ground swing nest - hovered for 1-2 sec just off grass level before dropping down. Reappeared around dead 10' away brush, then disappeared again. Flew up to 2' mesquite & then gone again. ?? foot into Agave 10yds. south of "nest"; sat at tip of leaf man top. Then bailed to dead brush 20-30yds N. bailed to Agave at 0638 when sat chipping - still carrying food. ?? into dead brush 20-30 yds. N & sang for 10-15 sec, then flew 10-15 yds. to NE & dropped into bunch grass at base of 2' mesquite. (0640). 0642 - ?? still in Agave. 0647 - ? in Agave but food gone - she prob. ate it - & preening. 0652 - ad. into #1 carrying food (grasshopper?) & on from Agave flew to #? then to # 20+ yds & dropped into bunch grass. Ad with food over E side of #1 when changed perches several times chipping regularly. Then over to ?? edge of #4 & finally jumped & flew into top of clump of bunch grass just S of #4. Han flew out of thr 10-15 sec & sat at E edge of #4. Then over to #1 where sat on wedge chipping occasionally. 0700 - walked out to supposed nest site & found deep grass nest placed in top NW side of clump of bunch grass. Stems of glass overhang nest. Only one young in nest. Has flight feathers just emerging from sheath & dorsal tract feathers also. Looks pretty mild.
