August 7 San E. Cuernavaca, Moxlos, Mexico
0833 - adult chipping 20+ yds from nest. in 2 flights works to nest.
chipping ceased just prior to last flight. landed on rim + seemed to
find young. heard begging notes from young. remained on rim of
nest until 0834 - flew off 10+yds to NW where sat chipping.
flew off + disappeared to NW just as heard squail in that direction.
this adult not part of the squial.
0900 - adult in silently to 10+ feet NW of nest. then to nest. short burst of
begging notes by young + then saw adult apparently eating something.
another adult began to chip + on at nest flew off & NW. chipping adult
came into view on 45o L limb (3" dia) over trunk - 1/2 way up 18ft
free. continued chipping with head + tail raised + crown feathers erect,
also changing directions slightly inspect. then flew off to NW.
0902 - heard squial 30+ yds. & NW.
0906 - adult silently to nest + begging notes by young. As I raised binocs
adult raised head + tail + erected crown feathers + began chipping.
continued reaching into bottom of nest then flew off 10+ feet to W where
continued chipping.
0907.5' adult to nest silently + young begging. leaves silently to NW +
squial clust 20-30 yds from nest.
0913.5 - bird chipping NW of nest 10-15 feet.
0914 - to nest young beg. adult feeds + then chips several times. reaches
into bottom of nest & doesn't seem to pick up anything. then to bottom of nest
again, picks up fecal sac, + flies off to NW.
0921.5' adult to nest where feeds young. then puts head to bottom of nest. But
came up at 0932 with nothing in bird & flew off to NW.
