LLWOLF 1964 Zonotrichia atricapilla March 15 Big Springs Canyon Tilden Park, Contra Costa Co., Cal. 0930 - plum. (Grousecrow) Bird in top of 2 foot high lupinus. Bush has many flowering stalks with closed buds + 5 stalks on NE side that are in bloom. Bird is pecking at closed buds then apparently eating some tissue inside + the outside bracts dropped off the side of the bird. Once thought it took some small leaves from near top of bush. Feeding in this way for 3+ minutes then flew up well 20 feet & disappeared into Baccharis dump.
