Lluwl 1964 Pigilo erythrothalamus March 15 Big Springs Canyon, Tilden Park, Contra Costa Co., Calif. 0930-0950 giving b333333 call. Occasionally hear a short version of song. Watched 2 birds (Black head) foraging c'm 2 feet of each other. One calling. #1 flew up hill 20 feet + lit in center of Baccharis where gave an occasional tzeet note. #2 continued foraging in grass just out from edge of Baccharis + Poison oak area. #2 flew further uphill + perched on tan poison oak stems. Then flew across slope to east across open grassy area + lit near outer edge of another Baccharis patch. 25 feet uphill from this position was another St Ruford-side which had been calling. #1 & now moved uphill following almost same path taken by #2. Then #1 back to new area where I first watched him foraging. Foraged for a short time then up into Baccharis to give b333 call. Also heard parts of two songs attached to end of b33.
