Chlorostilbon caucensis
August 7
Qui E Cuernavaca, Morelos. Año de Lobos.
Saw 2 ⚠♀ and 2 ⚠♁ Singly.
Found ⚠ about 1/2 completed building not about 15 feet
from edge of stream three bottom of canyon. Nest above
little mud trail ~30 inches. Shrub + tree canopy
probably provide continuous shade.
Nest at end of slightly drooping branch of nearby
shrub. Placed on branch & supported in part by leaves
at terminuses. Cup appeared about 1/2 completed. Outer
layer coarse inner bark, then finer material. Pieces of
bark pasted on outside. Looked like no lining yet.
⚠ collected material both from ground + treetop of 30
foot tree. Both within 50 feet of nest. Her approach
to nest was from above dropping onto nest. Twice she
settled onto nest & apparently put material on outside,
threw threw motions like bird-wiping on side of nest.
Saw no ⚠ in vicinity.
When I inspected nest she flew up 1 equal tail +
chattering to within 4 feet. Then left area for
10+ minutes.
