73 HK Wolf 1964 Journal August 27 San N. Terancingo, Mexico to Zamora, Michoacan, Mexico Finally tried to collect it + missed. Drove on to km. 245 where parked beside road. While I skinned the sparrows Dick went out to collect in the pine-dominated pine-oak woodland. He get a Vireolanius + a Hairy Woodpecker. After skinning them we drove on toward Guadalajara. Just outside (W) of Morelia Dick collected 2 Scelyroses + a racer from a stone fence. As left Zacapu it began to rain so decided to stay in hotel. Took room at Hotel Mendoza in Zamora. Got haircuts + cleaned up. Wrote notes, had supper, + to bed. August 28 Zamora, Michoacan to San Blas, Nayarit, Mexico Up at 0500. Drove toward Guadalajara + had breakfast along the road. Arrived Guadalajara at 0900 + had car serviced (62126). Then to market. Left town about 1230. Drove to San Blas arriving at 1800 (1700 their time). Around Lago de Chapala noted large flocks of swallows flying on the electric wires + foraging at about 5-20 feet up. Seemed to be many small insects fluttering on wind shields - this area + probably accounts for the concentration. Met Sam McGinnis + Charles Brown in San Blas + plan to stay one or two days with them. Both are working on Temperature regulation + activity of Chrosaurus + Iguana. Had supper + wrote notes before going to bed.
