LWWolf 1964 21 Journal Aug 25 (mi) SE Tamazulapan, Oaxaca to Cuenavaca, Michs, Mexico. Up at 0700. Rained lightly during night. Cool + cloudy before dawn. Had breakfast + then into scrub oak - chaparral (See Aug 13) to try to collect Oaxaca Sparrows. Cloudy + cool most of morning + birds not very active + few respond to "shues". Had Occllated Thrush + Rufous- crowned Sparrow by 0830. Began raining at 0845 to about 1000. Bird activity almost nil. Started back for car + arrived at 1030 - tried with only the two birds, found another Rufous-crown on the hillside above the car. Dick returned at 1105 with 7 birds. While preparing the line collected 2 F Lalothrips (pulcher?) that were feeding at red-flower Penstemon on hillside + along road. Both ?? used some of the same flowers. Heavy cloud layer disappeared + sun came out strong. Finished cleaning at 1405 + left for Cuernavaca. Stopped Zainal Tamazulapan for 20 minutes to try to find a Darby Sneo - no luck. Just across the border (Oaxaca-Tuxla) in Puebla (1-2 miles) stopped in dense oak - chaparral area + searched few times. Area looks very similar to where found Oaxaca Sparrows near Tamazulapan + likely they will be found here - may be locale for type of it actually was taken in Puebla. Elevation when collected (mi) SE Aqucar de Matamoros last year 3900+ ft. Then Matamoros at 1730. Finally arrived in Cuernavaca at 2000. Took 15mn at Villa International. Had supper, wrote notes, + to bed at 2130.
