69 H.Wolf 1964 Journal August 23 Tehuantepec to 16.5 mi SSW Matatlan, Oaxaca, Mexico km 666 61087.0 - left Tehuantepec at 1430. Up at 0500. Had breakfast along road 2.5 mi E. Tehuantepec. I then went out to record Sunichnat Sparrows while Dick went out to collect. Obtained recordings of duet + solo chatter + trillsong. First bird that I recorded was following another back and forth - probably a nest-building ?. Then out to try to collect group of Three Airedale vireos that attend nest of pair SW. Unsuccessful. Dick managed to collect 10 birds including 4+2 rifescuda that were in just about the same area. - Day hot, ground wet with dew early in morning. Back to hotel + prepared specimens. Packed car + left at 1830. Stopped in town for groceries. Heard last sunichnat sparrow, 62 miles NW of Tehuantepec along Pan Am Hwy. (Heard first Bridled Sparrows just 2 miles earlier. Stopped in pine-oak (km. 690) + Dick tried to collect some lizards. (1615). I hiked and saw Brown Woodpecker (5), Bridled Sparrow (3), Rusty Sparrow (2), Scrub Jay (3), Rufous-capped Warbler (4). Arrived at km 666 at 1200. Sounds like timing mechanism is going bad. Had supper after writing notes + setting up camp. Then to bed at 1945. Had Clavádinus Brasilianus around tent about 2000. Not able to find it when Dick went out with light. August 24 16.5 mi SSW Matatlan, to 1 mi SE Tamazulapam Oaxaca, Mexico Up at 0500. Rained for several hours beginning at 0030 last night. Full moon + partly cloudy - low clouds - when got up. Had breakfast
