LL Wolf 1964 67 Journal August 20 Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, Mexico. area where watched yesterday. Followed one pair for 4 hours. Mostly able to observe only disturbed activity as they move to tops of trees & shrubs on I approach. Began to rain at 0830. Bird activity dropped noticeably & I had difficulty following the birds. Still raining when I left at 1000 - but stopped soon after. Dick collected 13 birds - including 2 Sunclust Swallows + one Aimophila ruficauda. Collected a Progne sp. from electric lines. In group of three. Another species of swallows was roosting (20-30) on wire 45-50 feet away. If this is a Barnacle Martin I have seen no adults yet although 5-10 have been seen the last two days. Back to hotel where spent rest of day preparing specimens & cleaning some equipment. Tried to identify some plants, but unsuccessful. Ate supper after writing notes & to bed at 2000. August 21 Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, Mexico Up at 0500. Rained from 0230 + was still raining when we got up. Caught a large bird (Cuyzo marinus?) as we left the hotel. Drove out to 7 mi. E of town where had breakfast in light rain. I left Dick here & he was going to walk along power lines collecting. I drove to 2 1/2 mi. E. where spent rest of morning until 10:15 drawing (at trying to observe) Aimophila ruficauda. Finally found a nest with three eggs. Also found nests of Common Ground-dove (2), Dove Dove (1), & Groove-billed Ani(1). One nest had three young that were leaving. They could climb thru the tree & fly a short (3-8 foot) distance.
