Up at 0530. Rained during night. Drove out to Pari E. farm on
Pan Am. Hwy where parked on small side road. Had short breakfast
+ then I went out to watch Sunichrast Sparrows while Dick went
out collecting. Area is closed canopy Thorn scrub forest which now
has dense herb layer resulting from rainy season moisture. Where
has been cut Acacia is dominant, but does not form closed
canopy + has good grass herb layer.
sunichrast
habitat
Sunichrast Sparrows are common in this habitat - especially the
closed canopy scrub. Found one pair that had major part of territory in
Acacia & grass area. Spent until 1000 watching this pair - Mother
carried nesting material to close to road, but unable to find nest.
D' actively singing until 0830 + then quiet. I spent most of time
foraging on ground + preening on perches just above ground.
Day started cloudy to partly overcast, but cleared by 0830 + was
hot + sunny. The wind came up at 0800 + remained strong most of
day.
Back to hotel at 1000 where spent rest of day preparing specimens.
Dick took car to have oil changed + grease job ($1000). Also went to
market.
Had supper, wrote notes, + to bed at 2000.
