57 LL Wolf 1964 Journal August 8 Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico Up at 0500. Began to rain just as finished breakfast. Began to let up at 0600 so drove out to 5 mi E town on road to Tepoztlan. Spent until 1215 watching Rusty Sparrows in shrubby 2nd growth woods. Have 7 pairs located, but did not see or hear pair #2 today. Spent most of time watching pairs 1,4,6. Saw a squeal chew of some sort but missed the end. Dick went up to pine-oak habitat on L. 95 N. of Cuernavaca to collect. Rained from 0730 to about 0800. Then remained cloudy until 1030 then sun came out for about 45 min. Then cloudy again until I left. Spent rest of day preparing specimens. Wrote notes, had supper, & to bed at 2030. August 9 Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico Up at 0500. After breakfast Dick drove me out to 5 mi E. Cuernavaca on road to Tepoztlan. Watched Rusty Sparrows until 1200. Not much good activity today. Birds were relatively quiet. Found pair with at least one young (fledgegrown) near territory #7. Found nest of Catherus aurantiiacris & just up on horizontal limb. Contained one young almost ready to fledge. Also checked Blue Grosbeak nest it still contained only egg laid yesterday. Found Brown Thrush nest a few away--contained 2 eggs. P& setting on both nests at 0700 but only 2 Thrushes after that. Watched & Violet-crowned Hummingbird building nest 10 feet up in same crotch. Appeared to be about 1/2 completed. Cloudy to 0930 with several light showers. Then clear sunny for rest of day. Prepared specimens in afternoon (8 Dick got + 2 Rusty Sparrows I collected about 1300). Had supper, wrote notes & to bed at 2030.
