July 30 Cuernavaca, Morelos to 5 miles Coyuca, Guerrero, Mexico
Up at 0530. After breakfast packed car to leave for Guerrero coast.
Left at 0630 (Mileage 59604.0). Drove via old R.95 to Taxco + Iguala. All this country than scrub + pretty cut over. Then
Cañon de Zopilote - also thorn scrub + organ pipe cactus - bottom of
canyon pretty much taken up with agriculture. On to Chilpancingo
+ 5 of which pass thru pine-oak down to 3800 ft. Then change
to tropical deciduous. First view Pacific from 5 1/2 miles NW Acapulco.
Into Acapulco to buy few groceries then tried to find road to Coyuca.
Turn west at last traffic cop on way out of town - west exit-
go one block along stream & turn right. go two blocks & turn
left at sign to Piede la Cuesta. Most of the low country is
taken up with groves of coconut palms + there is much standing
water, crossed several small ridges where corn fields +
thorn scrub. Most of original vegetation is tropical deciduous.
Found turnout from road & stopped for night. Area is cut-over
Tropical deciduous with many Acacia. Collected 3 Ammophila
ruficauda + a fledgling Polioptila albilani while Dick 260+2
Cnemidophorus.
Skinned birds, had supper, & to bed at 1930.
July 31 5 mi. NW Coyuca, 500±ft., Guerrero Mexico
Up at 0530. Had breakfast while collecting 2 Ammophila ruficauda.
Sky clear + getting light at 0545. Dick went over to canyon to N while
I worked around edges in pasture for Ammophila ruficauda.
Found all today in groups of 2 + spaced in the fields. One group of 2
