46 LLW01f 1967 Journal July 24 Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico Up at 0500 after bad night. After breakfast drove out to Canon de Lotos. I spent morning in same area as yesterday trying to watch or record Amphile henerica. Not much luck with either endeavor. Finally found Dick - had left him at head of canyon at 0530 - at 1230. He had hunted head of canyon up east facing slope. Had 21 birds. Back to town where spent rest of day preparing specimens. To bed at 2030. Day sunny to partly cloudy in late afternoon. Streptoprocus sp. flew over going S. at 0630 + another (or same) group wheeled over west ridge at 0900. Heard Phylloscopa flying up overhead. Found old Melizone lurneri nest with broken egg shell. Also old Aichmolphus nest in deep slide of wooded gully. July 25 Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico Up at 0500. After breakfast drove out to Canon de Lotos. Dick went up a side canyon on east side (to east) + I went up east facing slope to watch Amphile henerica. Spent until 1100 in this area. Saw young Yellow Grosbeaks, singing Ptilated flycatcher, copulation in Lesser Goldfinches. Caught the two young A. orphicanda that had been weighing in nest earlier in week. Then collected 4th adult from around nest. Shot Charosoma pectinata. Back to town when went to market + had haircut. Back to apartment where spent until 1900 shinning. Had supper, wrote notes, t to bed. Weather sunny but hazy most of day. Haze best Canon cool during morning.
