July 22 Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico
Dick drove down the road about a mile when collector in similar
area. He came back at 09:30 with 13 birds. I took the gun + walked
up the west facing slope to crest of him. Along crest to N +
came down as followed along top of side canyon. Dropped down
into this side canyon. Stopped once to whistle Blue Glaucidium.
A came Myiagapis viridicosta, Two Myiotherus, Aechmolophus, Empidonax,
Thryothorus pleurostictus, Turdus assimilis, Selenis partulatus, Vireo
hypochrysaeus, Basileuterus rufifrons, Rose-throated Becards, Amphilola
humeralis, Melodrepanis, Amazilia beryllina, Calostrilla canutii.
The Myiotherus + Myiagapis chased a few at other birds that approached--
only the Oriole did not give way. Up on crest in cut-over shrubby
area I saw our first Chamaethlypis drop down buck of oak's pound.
Could not collect it. Weighed young of A virgunda in nest #1 at 11:00.
Dick reported finding another Amphilola humeralis nest with 3 eggs.
Rove back to Cuernavaca at 12:00. Spent rest of day preparing
skins + writing notes. Dick both car down to get Craterus windows fixed.
Tomorrow is better.
Had supper + to bed at 20:00.
Clear to scattered clouds all morning. Bright sun starts
hitting canyon about 0615 + lights floor where I am working by 07:00.
Clouded up + rained hard for about ½ hour at 1530.
