Up at 0500. Had breakfast + drove out to CaƱon de Lobos as it was getting light. Tried to shoot bats in early morning. Went down to edge of cornfield near Ainspiza vulcanica + A. humeralis nests. Spent most of morning watching 4-5 pair of A. ruficauda. Seems to be three birds associated with nest. Otherwise other 4 pairs are only 2 birds. Worked especially on sequences + apparent situations in which chatter duets occurred. Up to 0800 birds are very vocal + spend most of time up in exposed positions calling. Then activity becomes more quiet as birds begin to spend more time foraging. Pair (2) with Nest + young seemed to spend much less time duetting than other pairs. Have been able to find no evidence of brooding by other pairs.
Did worked on west hillside - dry + partly wet over. Collected an Amaurospiza concolor. Said a ? was with 8 collected. Obtained 9 birds, five lizards, + a rabbit - cost for supper.
Back to apartment when prepared birds. Had car greased + oil changed in afternoon. (mileage 59345.0)
Day was partly cloudy, but sunny until late afternoon when it clouded over + rained for a short time. Only partly cloudy by 1900.
Had rabbit + 2 Bandid Quail for supper; very good.
Wrote notes + folded at 2030.
