Up at 0500. Had breakfast & drove out to Eaton de Lobos.
Walked down to area at edge of cornfield on Acacia dominated
hillside. Watched two pair of A. ruficauda in boundary
confrontation. Spent until 0800 watching them 2 pair. Then over
to nest of A. ruficauda. Watched here for 1 hour from 30+yds away
+ parents would not comein. Left nest site + checked A. humerula
nest - adult incubating. Back to watching 2 pair around
cornfield - saw at least three together for short time.
Saw Rusty-crowned Motmots carrying food. Flocking 6t
Philegony's cinereus flew overhead & lit at edge of cornfields on
west slope of canyon. Banded Whin nest - 3eggs hatched by 1100.
Took one young for downy young. Weighed young in A. ruficauda
nest + took Bronzed Cowbird.
Back to apartment where spent rest of day preparing
specimens. Dick got 16 birds, a huge Bufo, & a Sellogonus or.
Day started cloudy + windy. Fog hanging on most of ridges
on either side of canyon + moving to west down side canyon.
Started to clear about 0800 + was sunny, but partly cloudy,
rest of day. Noticed fewer Black & Turkey Vultures today + they
began soaring late in day (0830) than usual.
Wrote notes after supper + to bed at 2030.
