July 16 Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico.
Tried to locate nests with no success. When Dick came with car
at 1145 I went back to two nests for final check. Find what
possibly is a Africana nest under construction.
Day was partly cloudy at start, but sun was almost up when we
reached canyon at 0600. (Usually obscured by clouds). Almost
cleared completely + rest of day was sunny. Road wet on way out +
probably had rain last night.
Back to Cuernavaca for lunch. Spent rest of day preparing
specimens - 11 skins + 8 skeletons.
Had supper, wrote notes + to bed at 2015,
July 17 Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico
Up at 0445. Had breakfast + drove to CaƱon de Lobos. Arrived [illegible]
befor sunrise but birds already flying. Spent morning walking
around looking for Amorphila. Watched pair of A. humeralis
only one
foraging in wooded thicket. Found no groups - except short
time when 3 A. ruficauda together - today larger than 2.
Spent all my time on west facing slope at S end of canyon.
Dick collected across the canyon on east facing slope. Both
sides at this end are dry + dominated by Acacia.
Back to Cuernavaca + went to market for food. Then
back to apartment to prepare specimens. Finished at 1830.
Day clear until late afternoon when clouded up to
east.
Had supper, wrote notes + to bed.
