38 LL Wolf 1964 Journal July 15 Guanajuata, Morelos, Mexico Up at 0445. Had breakfast + then drove out to Canon de Lotos. Had to come back to pick up collecting permits in case Forest man came by again. I spent much of morning watching a pair of Amotzula humeralis. F laid egg about 0815. Had noted swollen abdomen center in morning. Thought she was incubating so watched nest for about an hour before finally going up to check + finding two eggs. Then walked around for ~ 90 minutes looking for more humeralis. Found several pairs but not any in groups of 3 or more. Dick collected 16 birds during course of morning. Day started cloudy + had several light sprinkles. About 1000 mostly cleared up + sun came out. In afternoon, clouded over + had thunderstorm. Spent afternoon skinning birds after trip to market for food. Finished skinning about 1900. Had supper, wrote notes + to bed. July 16 Guanajuata, Morelos, Mexico Up at 0500. Had breakfast + drove out to Canon de Lotos. Dropped Dick off at head of canon from where he walked down to head. I went to end + parked. 1st checked nests of Amotzula vaticauda + A. humeralis. Then onto west facing hillside to watch vaticauda. Found area with at least three pairs. Had to watch as they quickly disappear in the vegetation when quiet. First noted as three separate pairs. Later in morning found group of 5+ feeding together on hillside above where I was watching. Probably included some of my birds.
