Up at 0500 (light rain at night - heavy in late afternoon yesterday). Had breakfast + drove out to CaƱon de Lobos which is on road to Cuautla.
Vegetation wet from rain. I walked up S side of canyon while Birch collected along stream in bottom of canyon. I spent morning looking for Simulitis ruficauda + A. humeralis. Worked mostly on dry hillsides at east end of canyon. Walked up N side very far to South with no luck. Found nest of A. ruficauda with four eggs + nest Gerygoneulus jocosis
of Tropythorus plumbeus with 3 eggs. Spent rest of morning watching several groups of A. humeralis.
Was stopped by game warden just as returning to car. Had left permits in car so he would check on list to see if we were legal.
Back to apartment where spent rest of day to 2030 skinning birds. Wrote notes + to bed.
Day was cloudy until 0900 + then partly cloudy + warm.
Flock of 15+ Black Vultures feeding in garbage dump along road. Lesser Goldfinches became much more noticeable by mid-morning. 0700 giving flight songs + saw 20+ chasing a P. 8-10 Rough-winged Swallows feeding on wing or sitting on phone line - some young.
15+ White-collared Swifts wheeled over top of canyon at ~0900 (heard at least two groups of Plain Cuckooshrikes calling from hillside.
