LL Wolf 1964 Journal July 2 Welder Wildlife Foundation, San Patricio Co., Texas. early in morning & was 10-15mph by 0800. By 1000 was 15-25 mph - fairly steady with some gusts. By 0730-0745 began spending part of time watching birds in terr #5 & returning to 80 #2 at intervals to time his activities. Seemed to spend less time singing & more feeding especially after 0900. Birds in terr #5 are at least 7, prob. adults + 2 young - young are full grown + at least part way thru post-jun. molt. Both failed Grackle flew over to SW n 0715 & then back to NE at 1645+. Three OSO's & a ? in morning, only 2 or 3 noted in afternoon. Tufted Titmouse came into Creechberry under which I was sitting about 0830, called several times & flew on. Dickcissels in pairs flew over twice. Covey of 15+ Bobwhites flushed from edge grass [illegible] yet near N. Mesquite Tank at 0530. Probably some covey flushed from area of Tank at 1630 & flew off to N. At 170 covey of 45+ flushed from about same area & so at 0530. Spent afternoon reducing birds for shipment & doing odd jobs around headquarters. Dick had spent morning looking for Yellow-billed Cuckoo nests & since both guns are broken we did no collecting. At 1600 went back to Mesquite Tank to see OS #2, unable to find him. Started to sprinkle at 1645 - very cloudy with lightening & thunder in distance. Did not rain hard. Supper at 1830 after working on some plant identifications then wrote notes & to bed at 2100.
