I went back to sec. 40 Lots 2, 3, 17 - same area as last two days. Spent until 1015 trying to observe Cassin Sparrows. Territories seem to be breaking down + birds are wandering aere. Saw Sparrows cross road for first time + birds moved thru several consecutive areas that I earlier had regarded as territories. No activity essentially in terr. #1. Saw Snother & Painted Bunting carrying food + did feel see. Also family of Lark Sparrows. Dick went back to 12ai sw. Refugio + collected 13 birds - including one & Cassin's Sparrow. Spent until 1515 putting up specimens + eating lunch. Then took Dr. William Thompson + Bob Rarbow from Wayne State Univ., Detroit to where found Painted Bunting out yesterday. I spent until 1630 driving around Foundation grounds looking for new areas to watch Cassin Sparrows. Found several - some areas may be suitable but this is poor time of day for song activity. Finished notes + had supper. To bed at 2000.
