LLWOLF 1964 Journal June 18 Boykin Springs, Jasper Co., Texas Dick picked me up at 1030 + we returned to camp. Spent until 1600 preparing 12 birds Dick collected; took him out for lunch. Then back to 3 miles S. of camp where road goes off to E. Mostly open pine woods but in damp places deciduous trees - especially oaks & sycamores - become most common. Spent 3/4 hour in deciduous growth where I collected 2 Red-eyed Vireos + a Red-bellied Woodpecker. Also "scurried" in Tufted Titmouse, Chickadee, Bewick's Wren, Louisted Flycatcher, Cardinal Downey Woodpecker. Back to camp + went swimming for about 10 minutes & got more water. Then had supper, wrote some notes (not journal) + went to bed at 2010. June 19 Boykin Springs, Jasper Co., Texas Up at 0445. Dawn chorus already in progress - probably what woke me up. Had a quick breakfast + then out to watch Pine-woods Sparrows while Dick tries to collect. He took me to a place where he thought he heard aestivolis yesterday. Turned out to be some sort of bunting. Went back to "nest" area of yesterday which is closer to main road on same road that Dick hunts along. Waited until 0730 for birds to appear - no luck. Heard 2 singing several times. Moved to look for them + found 1 nest building. Spent rest of morning until 1030 there. Dick picked me up + we drove back to camp + prepared birds until 1600.
