June 15 Tucson, Arizona to San E Davis Mtn. Sect.
a & Marsh Hawk fly across road carrying something in
beak. set in mesquite in grassy area bordering a
larrea dominated region.
Between Willcox & Bowie, Arizona turned due
east on R 86. Passed thru San Simon then crossed
over into New Mexico. 3 miles W of Lordsburg there
was a beautiful larrea - dominated region - almost
pure Larrea.
Stopped for gas in Lordsburg, New Mexico. Couldn't get
Car started for 10 + minutes so took it to another station.
Apparently is the solenoid in starter. Siner at rooms
had to wait until 1PM for parts store to open. Had
lunch in gas station & waited. Left Lordsburg at 1345
with a new solenoid ($13.14). Drove across New Mexico -
yucca-grassland + mesquite + creosote reaching El Paso,
Texas at 1700. Stopped for supper at 1900 100 miles
SE of El Paso. Again have been in mesquite+yucca-
grassland+creosote. Yucca is several different species -
some with flowering stalk coming out at ground level,
others up to 7 or 8 feet above ground.
Drove on + crossed into Central Time at 2030 CST.
Stopped at 2130 EST at 56004.
Had Poor-wills calling from hillsides around
camp.
