LL WOLF 1964 Journal June 4 Berkeley, California to 10 mi. N. San Bernardino, Calif. 54 451.0 12:15 P.M. Left Berkeley with Dick Sage. 54 658.0 - Selma, Calif. 1630 bought gas Drove on Ninety Freeway to Hwy 50. 50 to 33 east of Tracy. Took 33 to 132 which connects with R.99 in Modesto. Turned South on 99. Took 466E at Bakersfield. Stopped on east edge of town to buy groceries. Three Tehacapis - construction about 10 miles long. Partly paved on N side of road so should be finished fairly soon. Stopped for supper at 1915 at 54782.5. Can see scattered oaks + probably cypress in the distance, but most of area is overgrazed & nearly bare. Stopped for night just off R. 375 about 10 miles N. of San Bernardino - 2215. 54918.5 June 12 10mi. N. San Bernardino, Calif. to Tucson, Arizona. Up at 0530 after cool night - everything damp from condensation. Chorus of Mocking birds + Brown Towhees. Mockingbird sitting in dead limb in top of Bpaulus - calling incessantly occasionally flutter up 3-4 feet + drop back to limbs & flash wings as regaining perch.
