Dec. 19 Followed the flock for about 1/2 mile along
the stream then left it.
Back to Tucson to prepare specimens. Also
measured skeletons of Aimsophila + Playaspsiza in
collection here.
Dec. 20 Tucson, Pima Co., Arizona
Up at 0615. Stopped for breakfast on way to Molino Basin.
Starting to get light while we ate. Turned to right down
to stream where road goes off to Molino Basin Picnic Ground.
Walked along streamside then uphill. Flocks of Robins
+ Arizona Jay flying between trees on hillside. Robins
also into Mangarita - not seen to feed.
Found group of 4-5 Rufous-crowned Sparrows
among rocky outcrop on grassy - scattered Evergy Oak -
hillside. These birds seemed to be associated in a
group and may have been a family group - took 2
first year birds + 1 adult. Once flushed one bird
which flew downhill to another rock outcrop.
A second bird slightly further downhill then flew
downhill to join 1st bird at the outcrop. There
may have been a pair as the bird collected was an
adult & which had gone thru a breeding season -
tell by condition of ovary.
