LHW6/5 1963 Journal Dec. 16 warmed up. I tried to find a ceiling Granivatore, to record before the wind came up. Could find none in the Tanuchita area. When Root finished his observations we both tried to collect out the population of Greetiather for stomach analyses. Until 1130 we managed to collect only 4 plus one Verdin. Do not seem to be as many as were here last winter. While Root + I collected birds Arathor put up mammals which he trapped in screwben, lavafield + rock habitat during night.- 5 Peromyscus, 1 Perognathus, + 1 rat. Packed car + left for Tucson on L80. Had lunch in Tucson. Arrived in Tucson at 1745. Drove to 1025 Zaidi when stay for several days. Found Jim Ambrose, John Tracimantano + several others at home. Said hello then out for supper. Back at 8900 to clean up + write notes. Dec. 17 Tucson, Pima Co., Arizona. Up at 0800. Night was cold here, but not down to freezing. After breakfast went out to Wilmot Rd. Locality (0.6mi N Benson Hwy.) to see what birds were there. The only species present in any numbers was the Rufous-winged Sparrow. No Brewers Sparrows present at all + wh-crowns only in F2, small flock.
