LLWolf 1963 Journal Dec.15 several cars of hunters parked just at boundary waiting for wild fowl. We walked along road to headquarters about 100 yards. Saw coots, Ruddy Duck, Long-billed Marsh Wren, Orange-crowned Warbler, Song Sparrow, Finetails, Canada Goose - several flocks, 3 Woodcock, +2000+ Snow Geese; on Whistling Swan + 6-8 Ross' Geese (Arnthor). Continued on south to R. 88. Turned east & drove thru hamma desert, sand dunes to Yuma Arizona. Along river just north of Indian Mission & Territorial Prison on California side of Colorado River, we found spot visited last January. Root took Survey net samples from screwbean & arrow weed. Arthor & I birded in screwbeans. Back into Yuma for lunch & groceries. Then back to study area, Root tried to find Gnatcatchers. No luck. Birds are silent. Noted flocks of Redwings going to roost in Typha across river. Had supper back to town - To bed at 2230 Dec.16 (mi.) Yuma, N. Imperial Co., Caly. to Tucson, Pima Co., Arizona Up at @600. Had breakfast in cold morning air. Water in can had scum of ice. Could hear no Gnatcatchers (blue-gray) calling. Bird activity did not really begin until about 0700-0730 as air
