LLWoff 1963 Journal August 26 20 mi. E. Mazatan, Sonora to Tucson, Arizona - extremely difficult. This was perhaps the greenest + lushest area visited on trip down. Now as other areas show much more green then earlier so this spot has become less now verdant. Left area about 1200 after a quick level. I left a whole change of clothes - including boots - at the camping spot for some Mexican to inherit. Arrived at border at 1700 + crossed without incident. We were supposed to leave gun permits or present guns to General at Army post at Nogales, Sonora, to show we left country with same guns as we entered. All the commanders had apparently gone home for the day + we were told to return at 0900 tomorrow. Decided to cross + forget guns + permits. Arrived Tucson at 1900 + drove to 1634 Avenida del Sol for night. August 27 Tucson, Arizona Spent day in Tucson helping John prepare to leave. Also checked at University of Arizona hoping Dr. J.T. Marshall was back from Mexico. Back tomorrow.
