LLW04 1963 Journal August 25 cont'd an adult ? + juvenile A. carpata from same beach. Noted swallows flying east here. Drove to Hermosillo for supper + then back just south of town to turnoff to La Colorado. Drove in to km. 114 where camped for night on small road off to south. August 26 20 mi.s. Mazatan, Sonora to Tucson, Arizona Up at 0500. Had breakfast as it was getting light. Hard to hear Five-stripped Sparrows singing as their voice has little volume is easily drowned out by Varied Buntings, Brown Towhees, + others singing nearby. Into field. Found 2 family groups of Five-stripes. One had 2 adults + at least three young. Also collected a ? which had a hard-shelled egg in oviduct. MacGillivray Warblers, Black-headed Grosbeaks + Painted Buntings are common projects here now. Flushed an adult Yellow-billed Cuchoo from nest containing at least three fresh eags. Varied Buntings were in family groups with young essentially fled grown. Collected 13 Auripila quinquestriata including 5 juveniles so decided to plupare birds + leave for order. Area is very hot + humid + is now so grown up with vegetation in herb layer that observing the birds is impossible + collecting
