LK Wolf 1963 78 Journal August 19 Tlhuantepec to 2 mi E. Tapanatepec, Oaxaca Drove east on Pan Am Hwy. Past junction with trans- southward road palm forest becomes common along road. Much of understory is grass + weeds. Then thru liguara savannah in vicinity of Niltepec. 12 miles W. of Zanatepec John collected a Hemiplan from a roadside puddle. He reported many empty snail shells around the periphery of puddle - continued on + climbed slightly around Tapanatepec. 5 miles east drop into river valley. There is a road at Puente Las Minas which is good for camping if the vehicle can traverse the road. It leaves Pan Am Hwy. about 50 yards east of bridge + goes off to north. We didn't think we could get back out so turned around & drove to 2 mi. east Tapanatepec. Turned south on 2 wheel mark road which goes back into farming country. Finally found a place to camp about 2 miles back in where road becomes impassable. August 20 2 mi E. Tapanatepec to Oaxaca, Oaxaca Up at 0600. Had breakfast + broke camp. Drove east on Pan Am Hwy to 4 miles east of Puente Las Minas (9 mi E. Tapanatepec). Parked car along road & collected down bank in deeply shaded + heavily wooded stream gully. Sides are not steep +
