August 15 Tehuantepc, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Left area ~1000 by which time it was very hot + windy. Left specimens at Hotel + drove S. of Tehuantepc to coast town of Salina Cruz. Saw Frigate-birds, terns, + Brown Pelicans, + Laughing Gulls in harbor.
Returned to Tehuantepc + spent rest of day preparing specimens. 2nd egg of Sumichrast nest hatched while we were gone so I pickled that young also. But did not get measurements on whole egg.
After supper to bed at 2000.
August 16 Tehuantepc, Oaxaca, Mexico
Up at 0530. Drove out to 3mi. East of Tehuantepco.
Recorded Sumichrast Sparrows vocalizations while John prepared breakfast. Then into field to collect. After obtaining 14 specimens returned to car. John not back so looked for out again to observe. Found group of 3 Amphilura ruficauda - probably 2 adults + 1st winter plumages young. John returned about 1000 with one A. ruficauda. Back to Hotel where spent rest of day preparing specimens. John is now completely over his intestinal trouble, but a friend of ours here has come down with a bad case.
Have been paying for meals as we go + not getting receipts - Averages 40-50 pesos per day.
Wrote notes had supper.
