August 11 Oaxaca, Oaxaca to km. 616 on Pan Am Hwy. south of Oaxaca City.
Up at 0630. Finished packing + had breakfast. Started
south from Oaxaca City on Pan Am Hwy. At km. 608 -
11 miles SW Matatlan, parked car along road + climbed up
hill sides hunting for Amazilia mysticae. Collected 9
including one juvenile. Found pair of Golden Vireos caring
for at least one fledgling. Three + mysticae were on
srier parts of hills except Vireos tended to be in lushor
vegetation along stream beds. Green-fronted Hummingbirds
were fairly common in the thorn forest vegetation.
Drove on to km. 616 where road leads off to west
into little valley along Pan Amer Hwy. Area is flat +
grassy with thorn forest crepetation Except that it is fairly
near road it is a good camping spot. Had lunch +
prepared specimens.
Back into field to find Bridled Sparrows to observe.
Except for occasional bouts of singing from individual
& the birds are very quiet + difficult to find.
Had supper, wrote notes, + to bed. Was clouding
up + looked like rain.
