LL Wolf 1963 53 Journal August 3 20 air st. Morelia, Michoacan to Cuernavaca, Morelos. Camping area for tourists at KM 258 on M15 west of Mex City. Up at 0600. Had quick breakfast then out field to try to record & observe Rusty Sparrows. Found a singing m? & recorded some songs before he disappeared with a ?. Collected several birds & found another or Rusty Sparrow on oak woods above camp. Recorded & watched foraging behavior. Made two unsuccessful attempts to collect. Called in a Geucidium group by imitating its call. Berylline Hummingbirds were very excited by presence out. Prepared specimens, ate lunch, then started driving to Morelos. Climb up into pine oak & generally fir. New summit is camping area mentioned above. Drive then several uninvited valleys. West of Toluca, Mexico on cultivated & pastured plateau we heard Savannah Sparrows singing in fields. Took bypass thru Desierto Parque Nacional to Villa Obregonto miss Mexico City. Got jammed up in roads around University. Finally found road to Cuernavaca. Took toll road (8 pesos). Drove east from Cuernavaca toward Cuatla for 9 miles. Had hurried supper & threw things back in car to go back to Cuernavaca just as it started to pour. Took room at Villa International.
