LL WOLF 1963 51 Journal August 1 cont'd. Stopped at Typha marsh in ditch along road. 'Schussed' up 3 ♀ + 1 ♂ Chapala yellowthroats. Were spaced about 30-40 yards apart in marsh, ♂ + 1 ♀ together. Continued on to Morelia. Much of country is cultivated but road goes thru some nice oak + pine-oak woodlands. Drop down into valley at Morelia. On thru Morelia for about 17 miles - thru 2 valleys. Just beyond road crew encampment at Temescal a gravel road turns off to South. Followed this into oak woodland with few scattered pines. Began raining very hard. Finally found old shed used by work crews on roads. Found 2 dry areas - pitched tent in one + put stove in other. Had supper + went to bed. August 2 20 mi. SE. Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico Up at 0600. Had breakfast while talking to fellow passing by on road. Walked down road toward Tzitzio from the shed. Encountered several Rusty Sparrows in shrubby 2nd growth. Spotted Wrens were accompanied by fullgrown young. Saw several ants in oak trees + some in legumes. Cañon Wrens seen on several of the roadcut banks. Watched both Black-headed Siskins + Lesser Goldfinches feeding (or picking up grit) on bare vertical rock + clay face. Composition of the flock varied + 2 species seemed to stick w others
