August 1 cont'd.
Stopped at Typha marsh in ditch along road. 'Schussed'
up 3 ♀ + 1 ♂ Chapala yellowthroats. Were spaced about
30-40 yards apart in marsh, ♂ + 1 ♀ together.
Continued on to Morelia. Much of country is cultivated
but road goes thru some nice oak + pine-oak woodlands.
Drop down into valley at Morelia. On thru Morelia
for about 17 miles - thru 2 valleys. Just beyond
road crew encampment at Temescal a gravel road turns off
to South. Followed this into oak woodland with few
scattered pines. Began raining very hard. Finally
found old shed used by work crews on roads. Found 2 dry
areas - pitched tent in one + put stove in other. Had
supper + went to bed.

several ants in oak trees + some in legumes. Cañon Wrens
seen on several of the roadcut banks.
Watched both Black-headed Siskins + Lesser Goldfinches
feeding (or picking up grit) on bare vertical rock + clay face.
