LLW51f 1963 Journal. July 28 cont'd. perched in tree about 50 yards from road. When tried to start up again wheels locked- Apparently differential is frozen. John thumb-ridden to Guadalajara & I write these notes as I sit writing. We had been hearing a peculiar knocking sound at times on this try to Autlan, but thought it was a loose muffler & trippe - apparently more serious. Towed into Guadalajara arriving at 2315. No rooms at Hotel del Parque so to Hotel Roma where finally able to cash check to pay $300 for tow. Had supper at midnight & to bed. July 29 Guadalajara, Jalisco Spent until 1600 getting car repaired. Had to be towed to Chw. garage. Turned out that brace for drive shaft had broken & was jamming drive shaft. Soon fixed only to discover that shock absorber had apparently been broken during towing. Fixed this - but came to $275. Had lunch & cooked up a friend who showed us around Guadalajara.
