went in oak woodland. In bushy area along stream I collected a Rusty Sparrow that came up to screen. John found a family group of Campylorhynchus griseus + took 1 adult + 1 young.
I collected two more Rusty Sparrows + John got one. They were all in oak woodland - rather dense - or in brush where oaks have been taken out. Birds are singing + one ♀ taken has a brood patch, but every looks like they are just starting to breed.
Forageous habitat
+ breeding
Heard pair reunion chattering of Melospiza kienneri + took the ♀. Chattering reminds me a little of notes in similar situation of Albert Towhee.
Drove thru Button + tried to collect more A. refecauda - no luck. Took dirt road to 81 Cruella looking for camping place. Came upon covey of 6 Bob-whites. Four taken - ♂♂ coming into breeding condition + ♀♀ with enlarged gonads.
Finally found place to skin birds. Just as we finished the first it started to rain. As there was no sign of storm we drove to Button + took a room in Hotel Valencia. Had supper prepared specimens. Wrote notes + to bed at 2300.
