LL Wolf 1963 Journal July 23 - In mountains between Tepic + Guadalajara the vegetation becomes much more xeric with mosquito-like trees + Opuntias. Occasionally climb up into pine-oak. Met hard thundershowers at several places between Tepic + Guadalajara. Was cloudy the whole way. Arrived Guadalajara about 17/18. Prepared specimens, had supper, wrote notes + to bed. Staying at Hotel del Parque, Av. Juarez 845. July 24 - Guadalajara, to 6 mi. sw Lattenta, Jalisco km. 1114 Had breakfast at hotel. Grilled chicks, had car garaged & oiled + went to a supermercado. Prices are outrageous so bought very little. Left Guadalajara at 1100. Drove SE on Mex 15+80. Took turnoff to Marzavillo. Drove on gravel road for much of 160 km to Autlan, Jalisco. Much of country is fairly arid with cattle. Farming has cut up most of the valley land + some in the mountains. We could find no place to camp along road in valley around Autlan so continued SW. Crossed summit of hills + ran into cloud layer & rain down other side. Wound down into valley which is also heavily farmed + very wet at this time of year. No camping places. Climbing into
