July 22 with Jacanas, one with 2 Black-bellied Tree
Ducks, + several with Olivaceous Cormorants.
Turned to west on road to San Blas, Nayarit.
About 1/2 from highway to town is magnificent
palm forest where we hoped to camp, but could
find no places suitable. Next come mangrove
swamps which continue to San Blas Saw a
resting colony with Little Blue Louisiana Herons,
Snowy + American Egrets, Black-crowned Night +
Green Heron. Also Anhingas + Cormorants. Took
road to Playa Mantauchen, a nice sand beach. Here
found 5 American Oystercatchers, 2 Black-bellied
Plover, 2 Wilson Plovers, 2 Willets, Caspian Terns,
+ gulls + Brown Pelicans.
Being unable to find a good camping site
anywhere along road to San Blas we drove south
toward Tepic. In mountainous country - primarily
oaks - heard Botheri Sparrows singing. Managed
to collect one &. Started looking for camping
place. Finally drove thru closed gate into a
farmer's field. Just as we were replacing gate
heard Botheri Sparrows here - 2 males N of
Tepic. Looked like rain so set up camp
had supper & prepared specimens - skeletons - after
dark.
