LLWO/5 1963 Journal July 21 from the net & spent until 3:30 PM & then wrote notes. Day started clear & bright with scattered clouds. Clouds were heavy over lowlands to west. By 1530 clouds were moving up thru the valleys & thru our camp. Rained hard for 20-30 minutes & stopped by 1630. Black-headed Grosbeaks, Red-faced Warbler, + Martins run at this locality may all have been migrants as they were only seen once. Except for Martins other two were right at camp & should have appeared again if in territory. July 22 9 mi. E. Santa Lucía, Sinaloa to 7 mi. N. Tepic, Nayarit, Packed up immediately after breakfast to leave for rally. Took 15-20 minutes to walk to spot where John saw Dickie Jays the day before. Not there. Part way down mountains we stopped in an area of dense second growth about 10-15 feet tall to collect. Too steep & dense to collect, but saw Sinaloa where commonly plus an oceli, Aleozone leucura, + Momotus mexicanus. Continued on to coastal plain. After getting gas in Villa Unión we drove south toward Tepic. Vegetation is lush second growth with few to no big trees remaining. All along road are recent puddles of water - probably mostly temporary but some 37
