LL Wolf 1963 Journal July 20 500' feet up over a barranca or valley. Our boy who was supposed to bring no jays informed us that he could not get any unless we loaned him a shotgun. So did!! Tomorrow he & John are to go together to place where jays are supposed to occur. Day varied from bright sun to completely overcast, never had little rain in P.M. Again at dark can see clouds below us probably taking rain to valley tonight. Spent afternoon preparing specimens. Also watching nest out. John went back out about 1530 for some more birds. I finished just before supper, he carried on after dark. July 21 9 mi. E. Santa LucĂa, Sinaloa, Mexico El Batel. John left at 0600 to go with local fellow to find Bicolory Jays. On his return he reported seeing a flock of 11+ from which they collected seven. Apparently locality was valley just over hill from highway & restaurant at El Batel. I looked for wallet lost yesterday & then walked to west to look for Rufous-crowned Sparrows where found yesterday. Saw both Chestnut-collared & White-rumped Shrikes today, but both only for short time & in much fewer numbers than yesterday. Flock of 6+ Progne sp. flew over calling & circling. Appeared to be light ventrally except for darkish throat. Back to prepare specimens at 1000 with birds.
