July 17 Pitched camp, had supper just as it started to rain.
Went to bed after standing in rain for possible of bath
July 18 9 mins. Guachil & Culiacan, Sinaloa
Up at 0520. Had terrific rain storm with high winds last night. Pans put out contained 4+ inches water. Now only partly cloudy. After breakfast I go out for Rufous-winged Sparrows while John stays in camp to try to dry things out.
R-wings are not as common here as S. of Central Oregon.
Found pair of Thick-billed Kingbirds + collected both.
I had broad path.
Our first encounter with parrots - flocks up to 8+ of White-fronts + 2-3 groups of 2+ birds of Orange-fronted Parakeets. Watched White-fronts feeding on legume pods.
Actively flying thru most of morning hours.
John found nest of Rufous-wing & I found a Ground Dove nest with 2 eggs. Adult incubating on both. Curved-bills Thrasher in family group.
Had forest visitors to camp including some fellows trying to start farming some land behind camp. They say this is the first rain of the year. It has halted work on their farm. If this is 1st rain there Rufous-wings have anticipated the rains well.
Prepared specimens + packed to leave - everything dry.
Found another road to highway - was blocked by water
