Journal
July 16 Prepared specimens, had supper + went to bed.
July 17 22 mi. S. Cuidad Obregon, Sonora & 9 mi. N. Guachil, Fina
Overly until 8 o'clock. Had breakfast. I went out to
shoot some Rufous-winged Sparrows + check on nests while
John started packing to leave. Took the 4 eggs from
nest discovered yesterday for Dr. Sibley. Collected
5 carpalis + 1 Lardin. 2 carpalis were a pair.
When I returned to prepare specimens John
went out to get White-winged Dove eggs. He also
brought back 1 Ainszula carpalis. He collected
egg-white + we packed car. Drove to Cuidad
Obregon when met a local man who took us to
buy drinking water + then to the market. Bought
some fruit to supplement our diet.
Then on to Fina. At Las Mochas turned east on
road to San Blas. Had hoped to reach foothills of
Sierra Madre but road was so bad beyond San Blas
we turned around. Ate around + fee'd to the Rio
Sinaloa & a little south is some farm land - mostly
cotton, some sugar cane + nick. Saw Black-
Belted Tree Ducks, prob. Fulvous Tree Duck, +
Mist flying around fields.
Drove to 9 mi. N Guachil where a rut road leads off into
mangrove forest. Followed road - I turn to left - for 4 miles.
