Journal
July 9 After collecting here drove to Lady Bug Saddle
(elevation 8300 feet). With Piping Dove call I attracted
Mt. Cuelhades, Virginia Warbler, Red-faced Warbler,
Mexican Junco, Western Tanager, + Audubon Warbler.
Collected Virginia + Red faced Warbler.
Left here at 0915. Drove to 666 + then South to
highway to Tucson. Arrived Tucson at 1210.
Had lunch + prepared specimens. Both Pat Gould +
J.T. Marshall were gone.
Stay tonight at 1634 Avenida del Sol.
July 15 Tucson, Arizona.
to Wilmot Rd. locality at 0600. Area still has not received
any rain. Hackberry is showing new leaves but old ones
still hang on. Most of grass has been grazed out except
around other plants.
Spent until 0800 observing Rufous-winged Sparrow.
Heard 15+ singing 0730 + saw several pairs foraging
together. Heard no Cassin Sparrows singing.
Most young are full grown + independent, Cactus
Wrens in group of 5. Found no evidence of breeding
except old nests.
Spent rest of day preparing to leave for Mexico in
morning.
Was partly cloudy all day + rained in Tucson in the
afternoon.
