July 6 up Mogallon truck then uphill to mequinta -
overgrazed area. I spent until 0900 trying to
collect Desert Sparrowz. Managed to obtain 2
singing o's + a full-grown young. Both o's
were beginning the postnuptial molt - see species
accounts. Common birds in the mequinta were
Burroch Orioles, Mockingbirds, + a pair of Blue
Grosbeaks.
John found a o' (truding condition) Myiarchus
tyrenaulus. Probably as far north as the species
gets. Area along river was cottonwoods, arrowwood,
preserved specimens + then drove throught area
to see other spots. Walked along Cila River
near Cila to a sludge formed by a beaver dam.
Along river were 7-10 Killdeer + 3 Spotted
Sandpipers. Heard an Indigo Bunting in
cottonwoods. John collected a pair of Red-
winged Blackbirds which were feeding young.
Back to Silver City at 1300.
July 7 today took sight-seeing trip with Leonard + Jane Dabney
+ John. Drove south of Silver City on gravel road out
of White Signel leading to Sefer. Found abandoned
wire fence + explored. Pair of Peromyscus living
50 feet back + a dead Citelles.
