LLW018 1963 Journal July 5 stretches of the road. Only birds seen(?) were together. Returned to 1011 Florida at 0930. Prepared specimens + prepared to leave for Cila River area near Cliff, Grant Co. Took road to right in Cliff. Followed left fork + turn sharp left across cattle guard on to ranch road. This leads to canyons dropping down to Rain Creek. John walked thru a canyon - riparian to Douglas Fir as placed up canyon. I spent my time (1330-1630) on scrub oak, ceanothus, juniper, rocky hillside. Refuges - crowned Sparrows, Black-chinned Sparrows, Mocking birds, Cassin Kingbird + House Finches common on the hillside. Prepared specimens while waited for John's return. Drove to Cila River N of Cliff. Camp here tonight & collect in morning before return to Silver City. Afternoon at Rain Creek was overcast + rained for 1 hour +. Did not rain exceptionally hard, but seemed to be up in the canyons. John reported the stream in the canyon dried up except for few water holes. Crosses July 6 8 mi N Cliff to Silver City, Grant Co., New Mexico Up at 0515. Into field after short breakfast. John walked along Cila River in riparian vegetation while I walked
